Definition: Rail Cost per Passenger Trip measures operating cost of providing rail service per unlinked passenger boarding.

 

Performance (December 2024):

The Cost per Rail Passenger Trip of $14.49 in December exceeded the forecast by $6.19. This unfavorable variance was due to operating expenses coming in over budget and rail ridership falling short of the forecast by 0.4 million. The 2025 Fiscal Year-to-Date (months of July through December) Cost per Rail Passenger Trip of $11.09 exceeded the forecast by $3.36. This unfavorable variance was due to rail ridership falling short of the forecast by 2.6 million unlinked passenger trips and operating expenses coming in over budget.
