MARTA ARTBOUND TO UNVEIL
PERMANENT MURAL CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF DR. HAMILTON E. HOLMES
ATLANTA – The
Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) public art program
Artbound, along with the family of Dr. Hamilton E. Holmes will dedicate a mural
and graphic display celebrating his life and accomplishments at H.E. Holmes
rail station on Monday, Sept. 13, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m.
The mural was
painted by local artist Dr. Fahamu Pecou and will be accompanied by historical
text courtesy of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights and photos from
the Holmes family.

A native Atlantan,
Holmes was one of the first two African American students admitted to the
University of Georgia and the first African American student to attend Emory
University School of Medicine. He practiced orthopedic medicine in Atlanta,
later becoming a professor and associate dean at Emory and medical director and
head orthopedic surgeon at Grady Memorial Hospital.
